Top Math and Science Educators in Howard, Prince George’s, and Montgomery: Celebrating Excellence in Education

Four talented teachers from Howard, Prince George’s, and Montgomery counties have received the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching. This is a prestigious honor that recognizes exceptional teaching in STEM subjects across the nation.

The honored science teachers are:

  • Modupe Olafunmiloye from Prince George’s County is a science teacher at Kenmoor Middle School. She has experience teaching science and special education to students with cognitive disabilities at Buck Lodge Middle School.
  • Krishni Patrick works in Montgomery County at Piney Branch Elementary School, where she has been a fifth-grade teacher since 2007. Her background includes teaching third grade and STEM courses, as well as being a DC Teaching Fellow in various elementary schools.

The recognized mathematics teachers include:

  • Joan Shane is a Mathematics Content Specialist at Sligo Middle School in Montgomery County. With over a decade of experience, she previously taught fifth grade at Oakland Terrace Elementary School, focusing on math education.
  • Kate Sandoval serves as an elementary mathematics specialist at Bollman Bridge Elementary School in Howard County. She has spent nine years teaching at the elementary level, previously teaching fourth grade.
