Toronto and GTA Freezing Drizzle Advisory Lifted: What You Need to Know | CBC News

Toronto and parts of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) had a freezing drizzle advisory that was lifted on Thursday. However, some nearby areas might still see this weather into Friday afternoon, according to Environment Canada.

On Thursday morning, the weather agency warned that the freezing drizzle could mix with light snow. This combination could make roads, sidewalks, and parking lots slippery and icy. It’s important for everyone to be careful when walking or driving in the affected areas.

Areas still under the advisory include Barrie, Collingwood, and Hillsdale, which is expected to receive snow on Friday. Police have reported numerous accidents throughout the GTA, highlighting the dangerous driving conditions. For example, there was an incident in Burlington and two more along Highway 401 at Morningside Avenue and Hurontario Street where a driver lost control of a truck. Thankfully, no serious injuries occurred.

In a social media update, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt from the OPP’s Highway Safety Division stressed the importance of caution. “It is still a treacherous drive out there,” he said. “Please slow down, take care, and drive safely.”

Additionally, Halton Student Transportation Services announced that all bus services to Halton District and Halton Catholic District schools have been canceled due to the weather. However, all schools will remain open.
