Amtrak service was disrupted between New York’s Penn Station and Philadelphia on Thursday after a tragic incident in Bristol, Pennsylvania. The Bucks County coroner later identified the deceased as Christopher Cramp, 56, and his sons, David, 31, and Thomas, 24. The collision happened around 6:10 p.m. as the train traveled from Boston to Richmond, Virginia. Fortunately, none of the 236 passengers and crew members on board were hurt. Witnesses reported that police had received calls about people on the tracks just moments before the tragedy unfolded.
After the accident, train service resumed at reduced speeds about four hours later. This suspension had a significant impact on the Northeast Corridor, which is a major transport route in the United States.
This incident marks a grim week for train safety in Bucks County, as it was the second fatal strike within just days. Another unfortunate event saw an Amtrak train hit a man near Cornwells Heights Station shortly before the Bristol incident.
