Russia has carried out a significant drone attack on Kyiv, according to Mayor Vitali Klitschko, and a maternity ward in Odesa was also targeted. In Odesa, the strike caused damage to medical facilities and residential buildings, leading to the death of a 59-year-old man and injuring four others, as reported by Governor Oleg Kiper on Telegram.
After midnight on Tuesday, emergency services responded to incidents across four districts of Kyiv. This wave of attacks follows Russia’s largest drone strike on Ukraine just the day before, which Moscow claimed was in retaliation for earlier Ukrainian strikes inside Russian territory.
On June 1, Ukraine initiated a covert operation known as “Operation Spider’s Web,” which targeted air bases in Russia. Following this, US President Donald Trump spoke with Vladimir Putin, who promised a strong response.
During the attack, air raid alerts were issued across extensive areas of Ukraine, including Donetsk, Luhansk, and Kharkiv. Kyiv’s Mayor urged residents to seek shelter as the assault continued.
Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, shared on Telegram that attacks occurred simultaneously in various areas. Debris from intercepted drones fell on several structures, sparking fires in residential areas and warehouses.
In Odesa, patients and staff successfully evacuated the targeted medical station, though ambulances were damaged. Those injured were receiving medical assistance.
This drone strike coincided with the beginning of a complex prisoner exchange process. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky highlighted that this exchange includes sick and heavily wounded prisoners, those under 25, and the remains of 12,000 soldiers, underscoring the sensitive nature of the negotiations.
Historically, Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, which dramatically escalated tensions in the region. As the conflict continues, many citizens are deeply affected, while international observers and analysts express concerns about the ongoing violence and its ramifications.
Recent statistics show that public sentiment in Ukraine has shifted significantly as the war progresses. According to a survey by the Kyiv International Institute of Sociology, over 75% of Ukrainians remain resolute in their support for defending their nation, highlighting a strong national unity in times of crisis.
