Three people lost their lives, and nine others were hurt in a shooting at the Taste of the City lounge in Brooklyn, New York, early Sunday morning. Mayor Eric Adams remarked that the city would apply a mass shooting response plan.
The violence erupted shortly before 3:30 a.m., prompting multiple 911 calls. Officers quickly arrived at the scene to find nine men and three women — aged between 19 and 61 — with gunshot wounds.
A 19-year-old man was declared dead at the scene, while two other men, 27 and 35, later died in the hospital. The remaining injured individuals are recovering from non-life-threatening injuries, as stated by NYC Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch.
Initial investigations suggest a fight inside the crowded club led to the gunfire, involving as many as four shooters. Authorities collected 42 shell casings, believed to be from 9 mm and .45 caliber guns. Commissioner Tisch noted that gang-related incidents account for around 60% of shootings in the city.
While detectives have discovered a firearm near Bedford Avenue and Eastern Parkway, it remains unclear whether it is connected to this shooting. Mayor Adams urged anyone with information—especially those inside the club—to come forward. He stressed that such violent events leave deep scars on communities and affirmed the city’s commitment to removing illegal firearms.
Community leaders have expressed sorrow over the tragedy. Pastor Gilford Monrose extended condolences to the victims’ families and offered prayers for the injured.
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time the lounge has faced violence; there was a non-fatal shooting there in November 2024.
Police continue to investigate and have not yet made any arrests.
