Tragic Collision Near University of Delaware: 1 Fatality and 7 Injuries in Speeding U-Haul Van Crash

NEWARK, Del. — A recent tragic accident in Newark has left one person dead and seven others injured after a speeding U-Haul van crashed into pedestrians and parked cars near the University of Delaware.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. at Main and Haines streets. Before the crash, police found the U-Haul, which was overdue for return, and when officers approached, the occupants fled. They sped down East Main Street, ultimately hitting two pedestrians standing beside a parked vehicle. One pedestrian sadly died at the scene, while another sustained serious injuries.

Following the initial impact, the U-Haul collided with multiple parked cars before coming to a stop. Six other individuals suffered minor injuries in the chaos. Law enforcement detained the two suspects from the van. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.
