Late Saturday night in East Oakland, a tragic incident claimed the lives of three people and left several others injured. A driver struck a parked car and then careened onto the sidewalk, hitting a group of pedestrians outside a store near 85th Avenue and International Boulevard.
The driver, a juvenile, was reportedly driving recklessly prior to the crash. After hitting the pedestrians, he attempted to flee but witnesses quickly intervened and detained him until police arrived.
Fire officials confirmed that three individuals died at the scene. Three more were rushed to nearby hospitals, two of them critically injured. The driver was also among those with minor injuries.
