Eleven people lost their lives in a tragic crush outside a cricket stadium in Bengaluru during a celebration for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The RCB team arrived in Bengaluru by special flight and was warmly welcomed by local officials. The celebration included a procession, which was meant to lead fans to the stadium. However, chaos ensued as crowds from all directions flooded the area. Many fans wore RCB jerseys and attempted to reach the venue via metro, auto-rickshaws, and taxis. Public transport quickly became overwhelmed, with packed metro trains making it impossible for some to board.
