Police have confirmed that they found the body of a University of Houston student, Jade McKissic, in Brays Bayou. She was reported missing last weekend. Jade, just 20 years old, was discovered near Texas Spur 5, close to the College of Medicine building.
The Harris County medical examiner is still looking into the cause of her death. In a message to students, Vice President for Student Affairs Paul Kittle shared that McKissic was a student employee and well-liked in the community. He mentioned that counseling services are available for those affected by this tragedy.
“Details surrounding her death remain unclear,” Kittle noted. “We’re awaiting more information from the Houston Police Department.” He also expressed condolences to Jade’s family as they deal with this loss.
Jade was last seen on September 11 at LA Burgers and Daiquiris, a location along the bayou. She was a junior studying communications and advertising, and she was part of the 2025 orientation team at the university.
This incident raises questions about student safety and support systems in colleges today. According to a recent survey by the American College Health Association, nearly 1 in 3 college students reported feeling overwhelming anxiety, highlighting the need for mental health resources.
