More than a dozen people were hurt in an explosion and fire at a Staten Island shipyard. The incident occurred at 3075 Richmond Terrace, near Lockman Avenue and Andros Avenue.
Fire officials received an alert around 3:30 PM about workers being trapped in the basement of a metal building at the docks. A major explosion happened around 4:20 PM, causing chaos.
In total, 16 people were injured. This includes one civilian and two firefighters with serious injuries. Two more firefighters sustained moderate injuries, while nine firefighters and two EMS members had minor injuries. They were all taken to local hospitals for treatment.
A second worker is unaccounted for and may still be in the area. Firefighters reported maydays while they battled the flames, but all have since been found and are receiving care.
