Tragic Hazing Incident: University Student Loses Life Following Alleged Punching Attack

Police are looking into the tragic death of a 20-year-old college student, Caleb Wilson, who may have died during a hazing event. Reports indicate that this incident occurred at Southern University and A&M College where Wilson was a junior.

On February 27, Wilson and several other pledges from the Omega Psi Phi fraternity experienced a hazing ritual at a warehouse off-campus. During this ritual, they were reportedly punched in the chest. Wilson collapsed and was unresponsive when he was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Initial reports suggest that fraternity members misled police about the event’s location, claiming the pledges were at a park rather than the warehouse. The university quickly suspended all fraternity and sorority activities on campus in light of the situation. They have also started an internal investigation to understand what happened during the event.

Southern University emphasized that they take hazing seriously. University officials said they are cooperating with law enforcement and are following their student code of conduct regarding the incident. Each organization on campus must complete anti-hazing training, and violations can lead to disciplinary action.

Wilson’s family described him as a dedicated student with a passion for music and a member of the Southern University “Human Jukebox” Marching Band. They remembered him as someone who brought joy to those around him.

Omega Psi Phi fraternity has acknowledged the tragedy. Their international president expressed condolences and stated that the fraternity is working to gather more information about the incident. He asked for understanding and support from the community during this difficult time.
