The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) recently reported a devastating attack on its headquarters in Gaza. The incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, killing one worker and injuring three others. The organization stated that this attack resulted in a fire, causing significant damage to their facility in Khan Younis.
PRCS emphasized that their headquarters is well-known to the Israeli military and is marked with the protective red emblem. However, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) claimed they had no knowledge of any artillery or air strikes at that time.
A video shared by PRCS on social media depicted the chaotic scene, with flames and smoke engulfing the building. They identified the deceased worker as Omar Isleem and expressed deep sorrow over his loss. Two other workers and a civilian attempting to extinguish the fire were also injured. PRCS firmly stated, “This was not a mistake,” calling for accountability and the protection of humanitarian personnel.
This incident highlights the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza. According to recent United Nations figures, over 1,373 Palestinians have lost their lives seeking food since late May. Many of these deaths occurred near distribution sites managed by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), which denies such claims. In contrast, Israel accuses Hamas of exacerbating the situation by creating chaos near aid centers.
As the crisis unfolds, the need for humanitarian aid has become increasingly urgent. Medics report severe shortages in medical supplies due to Israel’s lengthy blockade. Although some restrictions have been eased, humanitarian agencies stress that more aid is necessary to avert famine. The Hamas-run health ministry noted that malnutrition has claimed the lives of 175 individuals, including 93 children.
The backdrop of this conflict is notable. The IDF’s military campaign in Gaza follows a Hamas-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, which resulted in about 1,200 deaths and numerous abductions. Since then, the toll in Gaza has exceeded 60,000, according to health ministry reports.
This ongoing situation has sparked intense discussions on social media. Many users express solidarity with the victims, while others critique the international community’s response. The correlation between military actions and civilian casualties has also led to heated debates regarding accountability and humanitarian rights.
