Tragic Liverpool Parade: Child Among Two Seriously Injured as Car Collides with Crowd

Two people were seriously injured when a car crashed into pedestrians during Liverpool’s Premier League trophy parade on Monday. A total of 27 people went to hospitals, with 20 more treated for minor injuries right at the scene. Among the injured was a child, and four other kids were also hurt.

A 53-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested after the incident, which happened on Water Street, close to the town hall. Police declared it a major incident and began extensive investigations to find out how it all occurred. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said this was being treated as an isolated event, and there was no ongoing threat.

The parade was a big celebration following Liverpool’s first Premier League title since the pandemic. It was expected to attract hundreds of thousands of fans. Shortly after 6 PM, reports came in of the car hitting people as it moved through the crowd. Eyewitnesses described a chaotic scene where the car sped up, and people attempted to get out of its path. One witness recalled feeling the panic as the festive atmosphere turned into fear.

Emergency services responded quickly. The North West Ambulance Service sent multiple units, including an air ambulance, to care for the injured. Some individuals even rushed to help others before the emergency teams arrived.

David Kitchin from the ambulance service praised the quick actions of the fire brigade and police, emphasizing the community spirit as people rallied to aid those hurt. Nick Searle from the fire service highlighted how they quickly freed four individuals who were trapped beneath the vehicle.

Amid the chaos, Liverpool FC expressed their support for the emergency services and those affected. The UK Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, condemned the situation and thanked responders for their efforts.
