Ludhiana: A tragic story emerged recently involving a 71-year-old woman from the US of Indian descent. Rupinder Kaur Pandher came to India from Seattle to marry Charanjit Singh Grewal, a 75-year-old man living in the UK. Unfortunately, soon after her arrival in July, she was reportedly murdered.
The police investigation began when Pandher’s sister, Kamal Kaur Khairah, became concerned after her sister’s phone was off on July 24. By July 28, Khairah reached out to the US embassy in New Delhi, leading to a police inquiry.
Just last week, the family learned of her death. Police arrested Sukhjeet Singh Sonu, who allegedly confessed to murdering Pandher and then trying to dispose of her body. Authorities believe Grewal, who is now fleeing, orchestrated the crime, allegedly promising Sonu a large sum for his actions. The motive appears to be financial, linked to a significant transfer of money that Pandher had made to Grewal before her trip.
The police are actively searching for evidence and for Pandher’s remains based on Sonu’s insights about the crime.
