Tragic Loss: ‘American Idol’ Music Supervisor and Her Husband Killed in Home Shooting in L.A.

Robin Kaye, a well-known music supervisor for American Idol, and her husband, Thomas Deluca, were tragically found dead at their home in Encino. This news was confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) on Tuesday, following a welfare check that took place Monday afternoon.

According to the LAPD, both Kaye and Deluca, who were 70 years old, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators discovered that there were no signs of forced entry; the suspect likely gained access through an unlocked door. The couple returned home to find the suspect inside, leading to a confrontation that ended fatally.

A 22-year-old man named Raymond Boodarian has been arrested in connection with their deaths. It remains unclear if he had any prior connection with the couple.

A spokesperson for American Idol expressed deep sorrow over the couple’s passing, noting Kaye’s significant role in the show since 2009. She was greatly valued by everyone who worked with her, and her loss is profoundly felt.

As investigators continue their work, the motive behind this shocking act has yet to be revealed.

Kaye had an impressive career in music supervision, contributing to nearly 300 episodes of American Idol and working on other notable projects like Miss Universe and Lip Sync Battle. In a 2019 interview, she pointed out a lesser-known side of the music supervision industry, noting that it often comes with tight deadlines and budget constraints. Many people don’t realize that music is usually one of the last elements added in production, and supervisors frequently need to solve complex challenges quickly.

This incident underscores a significant issue in our society—gun violence. According to recent data from the Gun Violence Archive, there were over 600 mass shootings in the United States in 2022 alone. Events like this prompt discussions about safety and the need for change. Social media has been flooded with reactions, many expressing outrage and calls for justice, highlighting the growing concern over the impact of such violent incidents.

As this story unfolds, it reflects not only the personal loss felt by families and friends but also the broader questions society continues to grapple with regarding safety and violence.
