Actress Kianna Underwood, known for her role on Nickelodeon’s “All That,” tragically died in a hit-and-run in New York on January 16. She was just 33 years old.
Witnesses reported that Underwood was hit at the intersection of Watkins Street and Pitkin Avenue around 6:50 a.m. A black Ford SUV struck her, followed by a second vehicle—a black and gray sedan. Unfortunately, both drivers fled the scene and remain unidentified.
According to the New York Police Department, the investigation is still active, with no arrests made. Officers from the NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad are leading the inquiry. Sources indicated to the New York Post that Underwood may have crossed the street against the light after leaving a nearby bodega, which could explain why the first driver didn’t see her.
Underwood’s career took off in the late 1990s when she voiced Fuschia Glover in “Little Bill.” She gained fame in 2005 on “All That,” which also featured stars like Amanda Bynes and Nick Cannon. Her talents extended to the big screen as well. She appeared in the 1999 film “The 24 Hour Woman” and played a role in “Death of a Dynasty.”
In addition, Underwood had a memorable role as Inez in the national tour of “Hairspray,” showcasing her versatility as a performer. Her sudden passing has shocked fans and friends alike, highlighting the unpredictability of life.
This tragic incident has sparked discussions about pedestrian safety. According to a 2021 report by the Governors Highway Safety Association, pedestrian fatalities have seen a worrying rise over recent years. In fact, the data shows a 21% increase in pedestrian deaths from 2020 to 2021. This surge has renewed calls for better road safety measures.
The loss of Kianna Underwood reminds us of the fragility of life and the importance of safety on our streets.
