Tragic Loss: Indian Army Jawan Killed in Operation Sindoor, Father Unaware of His Kashmiri Posting

Mumbai: A 23-year-old Army soldier, M Murali Naik, tragically lost his life during an operation against terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir. This incident occurred amidst the ongoing Operation Sindoor, intensifying the already tense situation in the region.

Murali hailed from Kalli Thanda village in Sri Satya Sai district, Andhra Pradesh, but had been living in Maharashtra with his family. His family was shocked to learn of his deployment in Kashmir; Murali had chosen not to tell them, fearing it would cause them unnecessary worry.

In a conversation with ETV Bharat, Murali’s father, Shriram Naik, shared the heart-wrenching moment when he received the news. “We got the call around 9 AM. My wife was devastated. The officials informed us that Murali had died during firing that occurred between 3 and 3:30 AM,” he said. “He had hidden the truth about being posted in Kashmir, telling us he was in Punjab instead.” Shriram described Murali as their only son, and words couldn’t capture their grief.

Murali joined the Army in December 2022 and completed his training in Deolali, Maharashtra. Despite his family’s concerns, he was determined to serve his country. “He wanted to wear the Army uniform for at least a year, and he fulfilled his wish,” Shriram recalled.

Just a day before his death, Murali had a video call with his family. He asked how they were doing and mentioned he would take a rest that day. The sudden tragedy left his family struggling to process their loss.

Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer expressed his sorrow over Murali’s death. “I am deeply saddened to learn that Army Jawan M Murali Naik was martyred while defending our nation. I extend my heartfelt condolences to his grieving family,” he stated.

This incident highlights the ongoing challenges faced by soldiers in conflict zones and the personal sacrifices made by their families. According to recent statistics from the Ministry of Defense, incidents like these have unfortunately increased, emphasizing the need for support systems for both soldiers and their families. Such tragedies not only impact soldiers but deeply resonate within their communities, drawing attention to the realities of military life.
