Corey Adams, an 18-year-old freshman football player at Ole Miss, was tragically shot and killed in Cordova, Tennessee on Saturday night.
According to the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, Adams was found inside a vehicle with multiple gunshot wounds. Emergency responders attempted to save him, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Alongside Adams, four other men were injured in the shooting but thankfully, none of them are in critical condition.
Adams had recently joined Ole Miss, where he was set to make his debut in the fall as a defensive lineman. He was recognized as one of the top recruits in the country, earning All-State honors twice at Edna Karr High School in New Orleans.
In a statement, the Ole Miss football team expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are devastated to learn that Corey Adams has passed away. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
Adams’s high school team also paid tribute to him on social media, sharing that they are “heartbroken” and will remember him not just as a player, but as a friend and brother. “This wasn’t supposed to be the end of his story,” they wrote, highlighting the tragic nature of his untimely death.
