A rock singer’s fiancée has tragically died after reportedly falling overboard from a cruise ship themed around the ‘80s.
Kimberly Burch, engaged to Taime Downe, the lead singer of Faster Pussycat, fell from a Royal Caribbean cruise on Monday. While her family believes she is deceased, her body has not yet been recovered, as reported by TMZ.
Her family shared this heartbreaking news on Facebook, saying, “It is with broken hearts that we share the sad news that Kimberly Burch has passed away. She was a beloved daughter, sister, and aunt. We ask for prayers during this time as we try to wrap our minds around this tragedy.”
Kimberly’s mother, Carnell Burch, mentioned that her daughter was excited about the cruise with Downe. The couple had shared a cheerful selfie on social media the day before the boat set sail from Miami.
Royal Caribbean responded with a statement, revealing they quickly launched a search and rescue operation and are cooperating with local authorities. They are also providing support to the Burch family during this difficult period.
The U.S. Coast Guard is involved, sending helicopters and personnel to assist the Royal Bahamas Defense Force in the search. The incident took place approximately 20 miles from Freeport, Bahamas.
Details about how Kimberly fell are unclear. Her mother indicated that Kimberly had been drinking and had a disagreement with Downe on board.
At 56, Kimberly was a realtor in Los Angeles. She and Downe had been in a relationship since 2015, as noted by E! News.
Downe, 60, is known for his role in Faster Pussycat, a glam metal band famous for hits like “House of Pain” and “Bathroom Wall.” The band gained acclaim in the late ‘80s, touring with acts like KISS and Alice Cooper, and sold over two million records.
Even after their breakup in 1993, Faster Pussycat reunited in 2001, with Downe as the only original member. He has also played in other bands and worked as a DJ and promoter in Los Angeles.
The cruise featured performances from various ‘80s artists, including Squeeze, Adam Ant, and Tiffany. It is set to return to Miami on March 9.
