Costa Rican authorities have released the body of 14-year-old Miller Gardner, who tragically passed away during a family vacation. Miller was the son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner.

Miller’s family was staying at the Arenas Del Mar Beachfront and Rainforest Resort when they all became ill after dining at a local restaurant. On March 20, they sought medical help from the hotel’s staff. The next day, Miller was found unresponsive in his bed after having vomited.

Initial theories suggested that he might have died from food poisoning, though this has been ruled out. The medical examiner’s office is now conducting toxicology tests to determine the actual cause of death, which could take several months.

Dr. Kevin Gannon, who oversees the Manuel Antonio Urgent Care center, arrived at the resort shortly after the incident. He stated, “We tested him for cardiac arrest and performed CPR for more than 30 minutes. Unfortunately, there wasn’t much we could do.” He has cast doubt on the idea that food poisoning or an allergic reaction led to Miller’s collapse.

The news of Miller’s sudden death has deeply affected the Yankees organization, prompting a moment of silence at their opening-day ceremonies. Brett Gardner, who played his entire 14-year career with the Yankees and was part of their 2009 World Series victory, is mourning the loss of his son along with his wife, Jessica, and their younger son, Hunter.
