Actor James Ransone tragically passed away on Friday at the age of 46 from an apparent suicide, as confirmed by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.
Ransone is widely recognized for his role as Ziggy Sobotka in the critically acclaimed series “The Wire.” He also played Eddie Kaspbrak in “It: Chapter Two,” adding to his legacy in the horror genre. He had a diverse filmography, featuring in “Generation Kill,” “Bosch,” and the “Sinister” franchise.
In a 2016 interview, Ransone opened up about the difficulties he faced during his youth. He mentioned feeling out of place among his peers, which many can relate to. “Adolescence was really hard for me,” he said. His mother enrolled him in an arts school, a move he credits with saving him. “Going to arts school changed everything,” he reflected.
After some time in film school, Ransone took a detour in life. “I kicked around for a couple of years,” he shared. He also pursued music, even considering a career as a musician. However, a turning point came when he realized acting was his true passion. After struggling with addiction, he found clarity. “I woke up at 27 after being on heroin,” he said. His experience working on “Generation Kill” was transformative, allowing him to connect with his father, a Vietnam veteran.
His story resonates with many who have faced similar challenges. It reflects the importance of support and finding one’s path, especially during tough times.
Ransone leaves behind his wife, Jamie McPhee, and their two children.
