Tragic Mass Shooting at Swedish Education Center Claims 11 Lives and Leaves 5 Injured: What You Need to Know

OREBRO, Sweden – A tragic mass shooting at an adult education center left at least 11 people dead, including the shooter. Five others are in serious condition. The incident happened west of Stockholm, and officials fear the death toll may rise.

The motive for the shooting is still unclear. Gun violence in Sweden is uncommon, particularly in schools, making this event shocking for the nation.

Three women and two men are receiving treatment for gunshot wounds at Orebro University Hospital. They are in serious but stable condition. Another woman suffered minor injuries and is also stable. All victims were over 18 years old.

Campus Risbergska, the school where the shooting occurred, provides education for adults aged 20 and older, including language classes for immigrants and vocational training. It is located on the outskirts of Orebro, about 200 kilometers from Stockholm.

Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer described the shooting as an event that shakes society to its core. The King and Prime Minister ordered flags to be flown at half-staff. Media reports say a press conference is planned for later today.

The shooting began in the afternoon after many students had left following a national exam. Those who remained sheltered in nearby buildings, and others were evacuated.

Authorities are still working to identify the deceased. Police confirmed the suspected shooter was among the dead. There were no prior warnings, and authorities believe the gunman acted alone. They have not disclosed whether he was a student at the school and currently do not suspect any link to terrorism.

Following the shooting, police searched the suspect’s home, but details of the findings are still unclear.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson noted the brutality of the attack, calling it the worst mass shooting in Swedish history. He expressed that many questions remain, and while answers will come, it’s important not to jump to conclusions.
