Tragic Police Chase Ends in Alhambra: Officer Among 2 Killed, 2 Others Injured in Violent Crash

An Alhambra police officer tragically lost his life during a pursuit that ended in a crash early Thursday morning. Officer Alec Sanders, just 28 years old and with only eight months on the force, was involved in a chase that led to another person’s death and two injuries.

Sanders had stepped in to cover a shift when disaster struck. Alhambra Police Chief Garrett Kennedy praised him for his dedication, saying he was known for his reliability and kindness. Colleagues remembered him as “an officer who responded to every call,” displaying both passion and discipline in his work.

The accident occurred around 3 a.m. near Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive, though specific details about what happened remain unclear. A witness reported hearing a loud crash; tragically, a woman was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene. Another passenger suffered significant injuries.

After the crash, both vehicles were badly damaged, prompting road closures in the area. Authorities confirmed that three individuals were in the suspect’s vehicle. One was killed, while the other two had varying degrees of injury.

A heartfelt procession took place later in the morning, as Officer Sanders’ flag-draped body was taken to the medical examiner’s office. His colleagues and family walked alongside, a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made in public service.

This incident adds to the troubling statistics, with 2025 marking the most fatal year for law enforcement in Los Angeles County since 1994. Seven officers have now died on duty this year, highlighting the risks that come with these brave vocations.

The California Highway Patrol is now assisting in the investigation. They expressed condolences to Officer Sanders’ family and the community, emphasizing the profound loss felt by all.

In times like these, the community often comes together, sharing memories and mourning the loss of a dedicated public servant. This tragedy reminds us of the realities faced by those who serve to protect us every day.
