One person lost their life, and another is critically injured after a shooting at Kentucky State University in Frankfort. Both victims are students at the university. The suspect, Jacob Lee Bard from Evansville, Indiana, is not a student. He was arrested on the scene and is facing charges of murder and first-degree assault.
The shooting took place outside Young Hall, a student dormitory. According to Frankfort officials, this was not a random shooting but an isolated incident. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear emphasized this in a video statement, reassuring the community that there was no ongoing threat.
Authorities responded quickly, treating the wounded student, who is now in critical but stable condition. The police declared an “active aggressor” situation and placed the campus on lockdown around 3:35 p.m.
At a news conference, KSU President Dr. Koffi C. Akakpo shared his heartache. He said, “As a parent, I cannot imagine receiving the call I placed today to the parents. Our students need prayers. Kentucky State University needs prayers.” This incident marks the second shooting at KSU this year. In August, two students were injured in a similar attack near Young Hall, but thankfully, both survived.
