A couple was tragically killed outside their Simi Valley home on Sunday. Dr. Eric Cordes, a well-respected radiologist, and his wife Vicki were the victims, as confirmed by Adventist Health Simi Valley.
Dr. Cordes dedicated nearly 30 years to serving the community. His employers described him as a compassionate doctor who was deeply valued by his patients and colleagues alike. Focus Medical Imaging, where he also worked, praised him as hardworking and committed.
Authorities believe the shooting was targeted. “We don’t think this was random,” said Sgt. Rick Morton. Though police have not yet caught a suspect, there is no ongoing threat to the public. Initial reports suggest speculation about a potential family connection to the shooter.
Later that evening, police investigated an apparent suicide in Chino, which they believe is related to the shooting. The body was found near a burned vehicle.
The community is mourning the loss of the Cordes couple. Neighbors describe them as kind and involved. One neighbor, Mike Hylton, recalled attending their wedding and spoke about Dr. Cordes’s role in local healthcare: “He was a figure in the community… it’s just really sad.”
