Tragic Shooting: Hyderabad Student’s Life Cut Short in the US

A tragic incident has struck a family from Hyderabad. Koyyada Ravi Teja, a 26-year-old student, was shot dead in the United States on January 20, 2025. His family learned about the heartbreaking news on January 21.

Teja was shot by unknown assailants while walking home on Washington Avenue. His father, Koyyada Chandra Mouli, shared that they were informed of the terrible event early that morning. Unfortunately, it’s still unclear what led to the shooting.

Teja moved to the US in 2022 to pursue a master’s degree. He was working hard to find job opportunities after finishing his studies. His friend expressed deep sadness, stating, “Nobody should face this situation. He went to the US with high hopes and now he is gone.”

This incident is part of a worrying trend. Just last year, on November 30, 2024, another student from Telangana, 22-year-old Sai Teja Nukarapu, was killed at a gas station near Chicago. He had also traveled to the US for further studies after completing his undergraduate degree in India.

The loss of these young lives raises concerns about safety for international students. Many travel abroad seeking education and better opportunities, hoping to build a bright future. It’s essential for communities and authorities to ensure their safety and support these students during their time away from home.
