A Baldwin Park police officer lost their life, and another was injured in a shooting Saturday evening. Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the incident on Filhurst Avenue, according to California Highway Patrol spokesperson Megan Curtiss. One suspect has been taken into custody.

The events unfolded at 7:16 p.m., as neighbors captured video footage showing at least eleven shots fired on Palm Avenue. One homeowner, who asked to remain anonymous, initially mistook the gunfire for fireworks. It was only after hearing police sirens that he realized something serious had occurred. He described the usually calm neighborhood, noting that in his nine years on Palm Avenue, there hadn’t been any shootings.

Shortly after, six more shots were heard at 7:26 p.m. at the corner of Palm and Filhurst Avenue while helicopters hovered above. By 9 p.m., the area was swarming with police, with officers going door-to-door searching for information.

Both injured officers were rushed to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, one by air and the other by ground. Their condition was serious. Outside the hospital, news helicopters hovered as police vehicles gathered at the emergency entrance. Family members of one officer were seen being escorted by a sheriff’s deputy but declined to comment.
