In Louisville, Kentucky, a tragic shooting occurred outside a driver’s license office, leaving three people dead. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and terrifying. A group of masked men opened fire, hitting a young man and two women.
The Jefferson County Coroner identified the victims. Leslye M. Harbin Jr., just 18 years old, died from multiple gunshot wounds at the scene. The two women, Antwanette Chillers, 33, and Raysa Pacios Valdes, 29, later passed away in the hospital from their injuries. Authorities haven’t confirmed if the victims knew each other or the shooters.
Witnesses reported that the shooting took place during a busy time at the office. Jalen Eddings, who was waiting in his car, was shocked by the violence. He watched as two masked men attacked Harbin, even shooting him again while he was on the ground. Eddings mentioned, “It felt like something out of a movie.”
Police quickly arrived at the scene after receiving calls about the shooting. They found one victim dead outside, while the other two were taken to the hospital. Major Donald Boeckman stated that the shooter escaped in a vehicle, but no description was available. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage for clues. “It’s a tragedy; I’m surprised more people weren’t hurt,” he said.
Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear described the incident as “a senseless act of violence.” The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, which manages the office, confirmed that security responded promptly to the situation, keeping employees safe by locking down the building.
Inside the office, a security guard acted quickly, instructing people to get down when the shooting started. Witness Ali Raza praised the guard for his quick response, saying, “He saved us basically.”
This heartbreaking event has left the community in shock, highlighting the urgent need for solutions to gun violence.
