A North Texas community is heartbroken after a sledding accident took the life of 16-year-old Elizabeth Angle. Another girl, Grace, is still in critical condition.
The tragic event happened around 2:30 p.m. in Frisco. Police found both girls on the ground with severe injuries after a Jeep Wrangler, driven by a 16-year-old boy, caused the sled to hit a curb and collide with a tree. Elizabeth later died at the hospital.
Elizabeth was remembered by her family as a bright and kind girl, cherished by all. She was a sophomore at Wakeland High School and recently got her driver’s license, dreaming of what lay ahead. Her loved ones described her as magnetic and outgoing, with a special bond to her two sisters.
School officials echoed this sentiment, noting Elizabeth was a dedicated soccer player, well-liked by classmates and teachers. After classes resume from a winter storm closure, the school plans to honor her memory and provide counseling for anyone affected by the loss.
Coach Luis Ramos praised Elizabeth’s leadership skills, saying she wasn’t just a player but a source of inspiration for her teammates. He even planted a tamarind tree in her memory and is initiating a scholarship in her name, ensuring her legacy lives on.
The Angle family hopes this tragedy raises awareness of the dangers of sledding behind vehicles, no matter how innocent it seems. They urge parents to prioritize safety to prevent similar incidents.
As the Frisco Police continue to investigate, no arrests have been made yet. The community remains tight-knit, united in grief yet motivated to honor Elizabeth’s spirit.
