Six people tragically lost their lives when a tourist submarine sank in the Red Sea, near Hurghada, Egypt. The incident occurred around 10:00 AM local time, with 39 others rescued from the vessel. Reports suggest the submarine struck a reef and lost pressure.

Among the deceased are two married doctors, while their daughters remain in the hospital. A Russian news source noted that two of the victims were children. Last November, a capsized boat near Marsa Allam led to 11 people missing, presumed dead.

Local authorities confirmed that the passengers included tourists from Russia, India, Norway, and Sweden, alongside five Egyptian crew members. The Red Sea governor, Amr Hanafy, reported that all six fatalities were Russian, but more specifics about the victims are still pending.

An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause of the sinking. Unofficial reports indicate that the submarine may have hit a reef while diving to about 20 meters (65 feet).

Dr. James Aldridge, who experienced the submarine tour earlier this year, described it as well-maintained and professional. He remarked on the safety protocols in place, noting that passengers received a safety briefing in multiple languages. However, he pointed out that life jackets were not provided, raising questions about safety standards for future tours.
