Four people lost their lives, and 11 others were hurt when a street racer crashed into a crowd in Tampa early Saturday. This tragedy happened in Ybor City around 12:45 a.m., right outside a popular gay bar called Bradley’s on 7th. Authorities confirmed that the crash wasn’t directed at the bar but affected innocent bystanders.
Three victims died on the spot, and a fourth passed away in the hospital. Nine additional people were hospitalized, with two in critical condition. According to police, two others who had minor injuries chose not to seek medical help.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “What happened this morning was a senseless tragedy. Our hearts are with the loved ones of the victims.” He emphasized that reckless driving has real consequences, endangering innocent lives. Units had even spotted him street racing on Hillsborough Avenue before he exited toward Doyle Carlton Drive. They attempted to pursue him, but the chase was called off as he sped toward Nebraska Avenue, eventually crashing into a crowd after losing control.
Owner of the bar, Bradley Nelson, recounts how the car struck three people on the sidewalk before smashing into the patio area. “This event has been traumatic for my entire staff and me,” he shared. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected.”
