Tragic Vacation Incident: Mother and Son Lose Lives to Food Poisoning

A family trip to the Dominican Republic took a tragic turn when a mother and her son lost their lives due to food poisoning.

On their first night at the Viva Dominicus Beach by Wyndham Resort, the family of four enjoyed a buffet dinner. Soon after, they all fell seriously ill. They tried to sleep it off, but by morning, they were suffering from severe vomiting and stomach cramps.

Sadly, despite their efforts to seek help, the mother and son both died within a day of becoming ill. A lawsuit has been filed against the hotel for $10 million, alleging that they did not respond adequately to the family’s needs during this health crisis.

Initially, the resort suggested they go to an on-site clinic. However, given their condition, this was not feasible. After much pleading, they were finally transported to a local hospital, but by that time, it was too late. The mother and son succumbed to the effects of the food poisoning just hours later.

The lawsuit claims that the resort failed to maintain proper hygiene and lacked emergency response protocols. Their delayed reaction reportedly cost the family precious time, which could have made a difference in treatment.

The father shared his heart-wrenching experience of losing his wife and child. He described telling his son that they would never see his mother or brother again as the hardest thing any father could face. He recounted being at the hospital with them, watching helplessly as they deteriorated. “My son passed away first, then very shortly after, my wife did too,” he recalled, feeling powerless against the rapid progression of the food poisoning.

This tragedy reminds us of the importance of food safety and timely medical responses. If the resort had acted more quickly or had better food safety practices in place, this family might still be together today.
