Members of the Case Western Reserve University community can participate in a valuable training opportunity: Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor training. This in-person event runs from Monday, August 11, to Thursday, August 14, from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at the Tinkham Veale University Center.
To become a certified MHFA instructor, participants need to complete the following:
- Attend all four days of training.
- Facilitate at least three MHFA sessions in the first year.
- Conduct one training for the CWRU community each following academic year.
Before registering, faculty and staff should get approval from their supervisors. They need to confirm whether the training can count as work hours or if they will need to take time off. Preference will be given to students who will stay on campus for two or more years.
This training not only provides essential skills but also helps reduce the stigma around mental health. A report from the National Alliance on Mental Illness shows that over 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness each year. Having trained instructors can make a significant difference in how we support each other.
If you’re interested in this training, please fill out the interest form by Monday, July 28. Space is limited, and participants will be notified by August 4 if they are selected.
