Charleston, South Carolina, Feb. 12, 2025 – The College of Charleston is excited to announce its new Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) program. This program focuses on learning and inquiry in practice, preparing educators to tackle modern challenges in education. It aims to give teachers and leaders the tools they need to create positive change in schools and communities.

The Ed.D. program offers a mix of theory and practical experiences. It emphasizes community partnerships, policy, and applied research. Students will work closely with skilled faculty and join hands-on projects, collaborating with peers from various backgrounds. This diversity enriches the learning experience, fostering new ideas and perspectives.
“We are thrilled to launch this innovative Ed.D. program. It showcases our commitment to high-quality education and our mission to develop future leaders in education and community service,” said Andrew T. Hsu, President of the College of Charleston. “This program equips educators with the necessary tools to make a real difference in their schools and communities.”
Flexibility is a key feature of the program. Students can choose to study full-time or part-time, with courses offered in a hybrid format that combines online and in-person classes. This setup is designed for working professionals who need to balance their studies with jobs and personal commitments.
“This program combines academic rigor with the convenience of online learning. It allows those in education and related fields to enhance their skills without being constrained by location,” stated Keonya Booker, interim dean of the Graduate School and director of the Ed.D. program.
Applications for the program are currently open, and the first group of students will start in June 2025. This is a great opportunity for educators seeking to advance their careers and make a lasting impact in their communities.
