Vijayawada: Renowned cancer expert Dr. D.S. Raju Naidu shared valuable insights on cancer prevention at an awareness event hosted by the Praja Arogya Vedika in Vijayawada. He pointed out that a healthy lifestyle could help prevent about 85% of cancer cases. During the program, in honor of World Cancer Day, a book titled “Cancers – Early Detection Methods and Preventive Measures” was also unveiled.
Dr. Naidu, who leads the Association of Radiation Oncologists of India in Andhra Pradesh, highlighted the troubling rise in cancer cases both nationally and within the state. He emphasized the importance of regular exercise, balanced nutrition, sufficient sleep, and managing stress as key factors in reducing cancer risk. Notably, he mentioned that breast and cervical cancers are prevalent among women, while tobacco use significantly contributes to oral and lung cancers in men.
Moreover, he stressed that many cancers linked to the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) can be largely avoided through good hygiene practices and vaccination. Early detection is critical, so he encourages everyone to participate in routine screening.
The event also featured remarks from various health professionals who praised Praja Arogya Vedika for its commitment to public health through medical camps and awareness campaigns. District General Secretary G. Vijay Prakash discussed the organization’s initiatives addressing kidney disease, pollution, mental health, and the welfare of women and children.
