The Switch 2 doesn’t come with a built-in camera, so you’ll need an external one for video calls. If you own a Google Pixel, you’re in luck. Recent updates allow your Pixel to function as a webcam for the Switch 2, no third-party apps necessary. Reports confirm that it’s a seamless connection.
Google officially introduced the ability for Android devices to be used as webcams over two years ago, starting with a quarterly update for Android 14. This included support for USB Video Class (UVC) mode. However, functionality with the Switch 2 only became available after the November Pixel Drop.
How do we know this? Before our Editor-in-Chief, Aaron Souppouris, downloaded the November update, the webcam feature didn’t work. Once he updated, everything clicked into place.
Google’s November firmware notes mentioned fixing an issue where the webcam mode didn’t work properly under certain conditions. This really solidifies that the update was key. We’ve reached out to Google for more details and will update if we get any news.
