Transform Your Snack Game: Join Our Free Workshop Series for Easy, Delicious Adult Snack Ideas!

Are you ready to take control of your health and budget? A free workshop series at the University of Guam this February is here to help. It focuses on making healthier food choices and smart grocery shopping. The series highlights “chesa,” a CHamoru term for snacks and appetizers.

Sponsored by the SNAP-Ed Program under UOG Land Grant, this workshop series, called Mindful Chesa and Snacking, is open to all adults aged 18 and over. You can register via this link: registration form.

The series runs from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Thursdays throughout February—specifically on the 5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th—in Room 125 of the Agriculture and Life Sciences Building on campus.

It’s led by UOG’s own registered dietitian nutritionist, Tanisha Aflague, along with SNAP-Ed educators Dianne Sardon, Katrina Nguyen, and Ella Macatugal. Their goal? To empower you to make lasting improvements in your health and wallet through small, manageable changes.

The sessions offer practical lessons, including:

  • How to plan your meals
  • Smart grocery shopping tips
  • Reading nutrition labels and spotting added sugars
  • Creating balanced meals
  • Incorporating physical activity, sleep, and food safety into daily life

Each session will be interactive, featuring hands-on activities and tastings of nutritious chesa recipes like kangkong titiyas, tofu spinach dip, and a unique CHamoru-style cake made with coconut flour.

And there’s a little incentive: attend at least three workshops to receive free wellness goodies like a grocery bag, measuring cups, a lunch box, and an exercise band.

This initiative aligns with a growing trend in nutrition education aimed at equipping communities with valuable skills. According to a recent survey by the American Heart Association, over 70% of adults express a desire to improve their nutrition and wellness habits. Workshops like this provide the support and encouragement many people need to get started.
