Transforming Advisors Excel Hall: Washburn University Launches Exciting Renovation with Glass-Breaking Ceremony

Topeka, Kan. – Washburn University recently celebrated the groundbreaking of the new Advisors Excel Hall with a glass-breaking ceremony.

“This renovation is pivotal for our academic community,” said Washburn University President JuliAnn Mazachek. She emphasized the importance of the Henderson Learning Resources Center, which has served students for the last 50 years. This new space honors its legacy while paving the way for modern learning experiences.

Advisors Excel Hall is set to become a central hub for academics, housing the Gregory D. and Ronda K. Brenneman School of Business along with social science departments and the Mass Media Department. It will be the largest academic building on campus, boasting more than a quarter of the university’s classrooms.

Cody Foster, founder of Advisors Excel, highlighted the significance of this investment, saying, “It’s crucial for developing career-ready graduates. We want to attract top talent to Washburn and provide support for internships in the Topeka area.”

The renovated hall promises state-of-the-art facilities designed to enhance experiences for students, faculty, and guests. It will feature cutting-edge technology, including media studios and a new Storytelling Lab equipped with VR, AI, and podcasting tools. These resources aim to prepare the next generation of communicators effectively.

Flexible classroom designs will foster collaboration and adapt to various learning styles. This approach not only promotes engagement but also creates a more dynamic educational environment.

Marshall Meek, president of the Washburn University Alumni Association, noted that renovating Henderson Hall has long been a goal. The project gained momentum when Cody and Jennifer Foster, along with David and Karlun Callanan, offered significant support. Their investment inspired many from the Washburn community to contribute to turning this dream into reality.

Foster shared his personal connection to Washburn, mentioning that about 60% of Advisors Excel’s leadership team graduated from the university. "Topeka is our hometown. Washburn is vital to our story,” he said.

Investments like this are becoming increasingly important in education. According to a recent survey by the Pew Research Center, more than 70% of students feel that modern technology significantly enhances their learning experience. Renovations like those at Advisors Excel Hall reflect a broader trend of universities adapting to today’s educational needs.
