Brooklyn is set to receive nearly $4 million for improving healthcare, especially for women and children. This funding, presented by Brooklyn Borough President Antonio Reynoso, will be used to upgrade facilities at NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health centers across the borough, focusing on areas that often lack sufficient healthcare resources.
One of the main beneficiaries is the East New York center, which will get $1.75 million. This amount will help renovate the women’s health and pediatrics unit. The renovations will include a new lactation room and a dedicated break area for staff, alongside integrated Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) services. These improvements aim to provide better support for families using the facility.
“This investment addresses the healthcare gaps we have faced for years,” Reynoso said, emphasizing the need for world-class care in every neighborhood.
Aside from East New York, the funding will also enhance services at other locations. The Cumberland center will receive $250,000 to update its outdated dental imaging equipment. In Brownsville, $750,000 will improve the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) system, making it more comfortable for patients, especially during busy hours.
Michelle Lewis, CEO of NYC Health + Hospitals/Gotham Health, expressed gratitude for the support, highlighting how these investments will make a real difference in patient care. “These upgrades will transform the experience for countless families,” she noted.
