The Samoa Meteorological Service is advancing its climate data management through the Climate Data for the Environment (CliDE) system. This initiative aids in managing climate data according to international standards set by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Recently, a training session focused on enhancing practical skills for staff from the Water Resources Division, the Disaster Management Office, and the Information, Communication, and Technology Division. These divisions are key in leveraging climate data for water management, disaster preparation, and sharing critical information.

The training emphasized improving workflows and ensuring high-quality climate data. Participants learned about managing Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data, which is crucial for timely climate assessments. One important aspect was also the digitization of historical climate data, ensuring valuable records are preserved in a secure database.

This initiative shows Samoa’s commitment to improving its climate information systems. With more reliable data, the nation can better plan for climate resilience and disaster risk reduction.
