Transforming Elite Sports Science: Output Sports Secures .8 Million to Simplify Performance Training

Output Sports, an Irish sports tech company, just secured €4.61 million ($4.8 million) in their pre-A funding round. This round saw support from new investors like athlete-led Apex Capital, Uni.Fund, and Dopamine Sports, along with existing backers Elkstone, Atlantic Bridge, and Enterprise Ireland. Notably, several angel investors also joined in, including Jim Kelliher.

Founded in 2020, Output Sports emerged from University College Dublin (UCD) with co-founders Dr. Martin O’Reilly, Dr. Darragh Whelan, Julian Eberle, and Professor Brian Caulfield. They currently serve over 800 sports organizations, with more than half of the English Premier League clubs among them. Their goal is to help coaches and teams make data-driven decisions to enhance athletic performance.

Their innovative technology allows coaches and sports scientists to track and analyze athletic performance using a single wearable device. This system is versatile, catering to various sports like football, swimming, basketball, and golf. It focuses on aspects such as strength training and power development, making it suitable for both amateur and professional athletes.

In the past year, Output Sports collected 30 million measurements from athletes worldwide. Their technology significantly contributed to medal-winning performances at the upcoming 2024 Olympic Games, including a record-breaking gold for Ireland’s Daniel Wiffen in swimming and a historic tennis gold for Zheng Qinwen of China. The company has collaborated with championship-winning teams and national squads in sports like soccer and rugby sevens.

To meet the increasing demand, Output Sports recently opened a new office in Boston, USA. They now work with major professional sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB, MLS, and WNBA. Their aim is to expand their support to more organizations, from professional leagues to high school and college teams.

This funding will help Output Sports accelerate its expansion in the USA and grow its team in areas like sales, marketing, product development, data science, and customer support.

Looking ahead, Output Sports aspires to become a go-to resource for strength and movement assessment, aiming to record 100 million exercise repetitions by 2025.
