Little Rock, Ark. – The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is launching a new doctoral program focused on environmental health. This is the first program of its kind in Arkansas.
The Environmental Health Sciences (EHS) doctoral program at UAMS Fay W. Boozman College of Public Health will equip students with the skills to conduct original research and analyze important data in the field.
Students will dive into a range of topics, including:
- Environmental Toxicology
- Cancer and environmental exposure
- Understanding exposure assessment
- Nutrition and supplements
- Public health microbiology
- Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
- Biomarkers of exposure
- Climate change and its impact on public health
UAMS’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences has studied the region’s workforce needs and found a demand for this doctoral program. Currently, there are no similar programs in the state, pushing employers to either train candidates internally or look outside Arkansas for skilled workers.
As Gunnar Boysen, Ph.D., an associate professor at UAMS, explained, “This program will provide Arkansans the opportunity to pursue high-paying jobs that benefit the state for years to come.”
For more details about the program, including admissions and assistantships, check out the UAMS website.
