DAYTON, Ohio — Kettering Health has teamed up with the Ohio University Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine. This partnership aims to improve healthcare in Ohio by focusing on whole-person care and training new medical professionals.
They plan to create a shared Health Innovations Hub, which will combine the resources and expertise of both institutions. One exciting possibility is establishing an Ohio University campus in the Kettering Health area. This could enhance community healthcare, particularly in southwest Ohio.
Mike Gentry, Kettering Health’s president and CEO, emphasized their shared mission: “This collaboration is about better health for all Ohioans. By partnering with HCOM, we can expand the healthcare workforce and improve access to care.”
Workforce expansion is a major focus. The partnership will enhance existing residency and fellowship programs and assess the need for new ones. Ken Johnson, Ohio University’s vice president for health affairs, highlighted the importance of their role in training healthcare professionals: “We train more physicians than any other university in Ohio, and many of our graduates stay to practice here, filling critical gaps in care.”
This partnership comes at a crucial time. A recent report from the Association of American Medical Colleges noted that the U.S. may face a shortage of over 120,000 physicians by 2030. Collaborations like this aim to address such challenges by fostering education and innovation in healthcare.
