On July 15, 2025, Houston Community College’s Coleman College for Health Sciences shone as a key player in the future of healthcare. Under the leadership of President Dr. Lutricia Harrison, the college hosted a pivotal Health Partners Event. This event gathered leaders from hospitals, community colleges, and local nonprofits, all eager to shape tomorrow’s healthcare workforce.
Held in the college’s modern facility near the Texas Medical Center, the event was more than just a tour. It was a celebration of innovation and collaboration. Attendees explored hands-on labs and classrooms where students are trained in fields like nursing, radiologic technology, and respiratory therapy. Each program is designed to ensure students are ready for the workforce.
Dr. Harrison highlighted the college’s mission: “We’re not just preparing students for jobs—we’re empowering them to transform lives through healthcare.” This sentiment reflects a growing trend in education. Many institutions now focus on practical learning experiences that lead directly to employment.
The event also emphasized the urgent need for healthcare professionals in Texas. According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, healthcare jobs are projected to grow by 16% from 2020 to 2030, much faster than the average for all occupations. HCC Coleman is stepping up to meet this demand with accredited programs that lead to high-wage careers. Many graduates find job offers waiting for them upon completion of their studies.
Moreover, the collaboration between local hospitals and educational institutions during this event illustrates a commitment to developing skilled professionals from within the community. This partnership model not only helps address the healthcare talent shortage but also strengthens local economies.
As students don their scrubs and prepare for the future, the message is clear: the next generation of healthcare heroes is being trained right here at HCC Coleman.
