Dr. Susan Hook has exciting news for Pine Islanders: the Samaritan Health and Wellness Center has a new home! Now located at the First Baptist Church of Pine Island, this office continues to serve patients every other Wednesday. You can find them at 5363 Avenue D, Bokeelia, FL 33922.
Dr. Hook, who started her career over 40 years ago as a certified nursing assistant and has spent the last two decades as a nurse practitioner, is passionate about providing care to those who are uninsured or underinsured. She previously worked with the Lee Physician Group until 2014 before launching this new chapter with Samaritan Health.
What’s particularly exciting is a recent grant that allows uninsured patients to receive free lab tests. “We wrote the grant in August 2024, and I honestly forgot about it until I got an email in March 2025 saying we got it,” Hook shared. This grant, known as the Cinotti Health Screening Grant, is offered through the state Department of Health. It enables a comprehensive workup including tests for blood sugar, cholesterol, kidney, and liver function.
In a generous move, the Samaritan Health and Wellness Center is currently offering a free visit for anyone without insurance. The labs obtained during this initial visit will help with consultations for any future needs. Dr. Hook emphasizes, “This opportunity allows us to help those who might otherwise go without essential health services.”
These visits will begin on February 18, 2026, at the new location. Dr. Hook expresses her gratitude to the church for providing this space, stating, “We look forward to welcoming people for their free visit and helping them get established with us.”
As of 2023, studies show that nearly 30 million Americans lack health insurance. Initiatives like Dr. Hook’s are crucial in bridging gaps in healthcare access. They enable individuals to receive care, regardless of their financial situation, illustrating a vital need in community health services.
