Muhd Idzwan Syafiq Mohd Johari’s story is a powerful reminder that change is possible, even in dire situations. At just 33, he faced severe kidney failure due to an unhealthy lifestyle. Weighing in at 190 kg, his diet consisted mainly of fast food and snacks high in sugar and salt. By 25, he was dealing with gout and serious health issues, including bone problems and blood clots in his lungs.
But Idzwan made a choice to turn his life around. With determination and strict discipline, he lost over 135 kg in just six months, dropping to a healthier 55 kg. This remarkable change improved his kidney condition from stage five to stage three.
“I realized that if I didn’t change, I’d be stuck on dialysis for life. After only six sessions, I developed a bacterial infection that made me rethink my approach to health,” Idzwan shared at a recent event.
His journey was challenging. In 2019, he fell down the stairs, leading to internal bleeding and complicated health issues, requiring four surgeries to address spinal problems. Despite these hardships, his resolve to achieve a healthier life never wavered.
Experts agree that diet plays a crucial role in managing kidney health. Prof Dr. Ab Aziz Al-Safi, founder of Neo Medicare, emphasizes the impact of nutrition. His center has successfully helped over 5,000 patients in the past 13 years to improve their quality of life with evidence-based treatments.
“Proper nutrition is essential for kidney patients. They should limit animal protein and focus on plant-based options like vegetables, barley, and honey,” he explains. Many patients struggle with their conditions simply because they underestimate the power of a good diet.
Statistics show that around 10% of the global population suffers from kidney disease, highlighting the need for better awareness of healthy lifestyle choices. According to a recent survey, nearly 60% of people with kidney issues reported that they never received proper dietary guidance from healthcare professionals.
Idzwan’s transformation illustrates that taking control of one’s health through conscious choices can lead to improved outcomes. It serves as a beacon of hope for countless others facing similar challenges.
