Catholic Charities Diocese of Venice, Inc. is stepping up its efforts in mental health support to address an urgent need in Southwest Florida. This also means new job opportunities for behavioral health professionals.
According to Christopher Root, CEO of Catholic Charities, “We are adding more professionals and locations, as well as creating virtual options for those struggling to connect with therapists. Our goal is to make care accessible and confidential for everyone.” This commitment emphasizes compassion and dignity for all individuals seeking help.
To fill these positions, Catholic Charities is hosting virtual interviews on Wednesday, Oct. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon and 3 to 4 p.m. (US/Eastern), and again on Friday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon. Interested candidates can register online.
This initiative also aligns with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ new “Healing and Hope” program. This program aims to enhance community engagement in mental health awareness as part of a broader National Catholic Mental Health Campaign. In honor of World Mental Health Day on Oct. 10, local parishes are encouraged to pray for those affected by mental health issues during Mass on the weekend of Oct. 11-12. There will also be a Novena for Mental Health from Oct. 10 to Oct. 18, uniting Catholics across the nation in solidarity. More information can be found at usccb.org.
Statistics show that mental health issues have surged in recent years. A 2021 survey by the National Institute of Mental Health reported that 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experience mental illness. This underscores the urgent need for expanded services. By enhancing behavioral health offerings, Catholic Charities is helping to strengthen families and foster healthier communities across the region. Their work relies heavily on the generous support of donors and volunteers who share their mission.
