Cram the Cruiser Drive Brings in 25,000+ Pounds of Food for Families in Franklin County
The recent Cram the Cruiser food drive was a heartwarming success, collecting over 25,000 pounds of food for families in Franklin County. This event, which took place in December, was organized by local law enforcement, including the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police, and Frankfort Police Department. Together, they united the community with a common goal: providing food for those in need during the holidays.
Support came not just in the form of food donations. The Teresa Hatton Foundation contributed a $500 donation to aid the Emergency Community Food Pantry. Richard Tanner, a former board president, and current president Zack Marshall presented the check to Sheriff Dwayne Depp and John Hertzel, board chair of the pantry.
“Cram the Cruiser shows what’s possible when our community comes together,” Sheriff Depp remarked. His sentiment resonates with many, illustrating how collective efforts can make a tangible difference.
John Hertzel added, “Every box and every bag adds up.” He recognized that every bit of support from the community plays a crucial role in meeting the seasonal demand for food assistance. This drive emphasizes the power of neighbors helping neighbors, especially during the holidays.
Food insecurity is a pressing issue nationwide, affecting millions. According to a recent report by Feeding America, about 1 in 8 people face hunger. Events like Cram the Cruiser not only address immediate needs but also foster a sense of community and support among residents.
Social media buzzed with appreciation for the drive. Many locals shared their donations and experiences, highlighting the generosity of their neighbors. Platforms like Facebook and Twitter showed that community spirit is alive and well in Franklin County.
