Chief, a member of the homeless community, expressed gratitude for their services: “They’re the best thing we got out here. If it wasn’t for them, we wouldn’t have anyone checking on us or helping with prescriptions.” He’s been homeless for six years and relies heavily on the team’s support.
The team’s mobility allows them to transport individuals to appointments and deliver medications directly. This convenient approach also includes on-the-spot mental health care, which is unique in the region. Moreno explained how crucial it is to build rapport with the community to effectively address their needs. The personal touch can spark vital conversations about mental health and crisis support.
This program primarily operates through grants, allowing them to serve those who often feel neglected by traditional healthcare services. “They trust us. We’ve built relationships,” Caracciola added. “When we recommend a provider, they’re more willing to connect.”
