Transforming Lives: UWSP Unveils New Institute for Behavioral Health and Wellness Training

With an increasing need for mental health professionals, the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point (UWSP) has introduced a new institute focused on enhancing behavioral health and wellness services in central Wisconsin and beyond.

The Institute for Behavioral Health and Wellness Training will be part of UWSP’s Continuing Education and Outreach division. It aims to provide flexible certification and professional development programs for individuals and organizations. This initiative builds on UWSP’s solid reputation in health and human services training, addressing a critical shortage in the workforce.

Recent statistics indicate that approximately 1 in 5 adults in the U.S. experiences mental illness each year, amplifying the urgency for training in this field. Additionally, the Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a growth rate of 22% for mental health counselors over the next decade, far exceeding the average growth rate for all occupations.

The institute’s signature offerings include events like the Mental Health and Substance Use Recovery Conference and the International Health and Wellness Coaching Conference. These programs have already attracted participants from around the country and even internationally. With the institute’s launch, UWSP plans to broaden its reach and enhance its impact.

  • Create a global hub for online behavioral health and wellness training.
  • Tackle workforce shortages by offering vital educational programs.
  • Foster economic growth by providing workforce solutions to Wisconsin communities.

According to a recent survey by the National Council for Behavioral Health, over 70% of mental health organizations report difficulty in hiring qualified staff. The new institute directly addresses this challenge, providing essential training to meet the rising demand.

“The Institute for Behavioral Health and Wellness Training shows our dedication to innovation, excellence, and making a positive impact in our community,” UWSP stated.
